Analysis, consistency, and digitization
We analyze existing holdings, identify structural inconsistencies, and consolidate fragmented data and collections into coherent digital structures.
For archives, museums, memory institutions, and private collections or archives, we transform dispersed and heterogeneous materials into sustainable, interoperable, and research-ready digital collections. The result is a robust data foundation for long-term digital preservation and scholarly use.
Virtual Culture provides standards-compliant, high-quality digitization services for public and private archives and museums. We employ high-resolution photography, 3D photogrammetry, and Reflection Transformation Imaging (RTI) to capture material properties, surface details, and object contexts with precision. Our digitization workflows are designed for quality assurance, reproducibility, and long-term usability.
We align our work with international digitization standards such as Metamorfoze, FADGI, and relevant ISO standards. For digital long-term preservation and professional data stewardship, we structure workflows and data models according to established reference models including OAIS, CCD, and RiC, creating sustainable and interoperable digital infrastructures.
By combining technical expertise with curatorial and archival thinking, we create clearly structured, traceable, and durable digital assets. These can be securely preserved, made accessible online, and responsibly reused for research, education, digital exhibitions, and innovative forms of reuse in the fields of Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage.
We provide expert guidance in the evaluation of products, partners, and workflows—from the development of digital strategies and the analysis of existing systems to the planning of long-term preservation.
We support capacity building through consulting and training, including academic continuing education formats in collaboration with the University of Basel.
